Description

This 90-minute lesson on 2022 HIPAA Training for the Compliance Officer will address how practice/business managers (or compliance offers) need to get their HIPAA house in order before the imminent audits occur. It will also address significant changes under the Omnibus Rule and any other applicable updates for 2022.

The areas covered will be texting, email, encryption, medical messaging, voice data, and risk factors related to IT. The primary goal is to ensure everyone is well educated on what is myth and what is reality with this law; there is so much misleading information all over regarding the do's and don'ts with HIPAA – Mr. Brian Tuttle, with over 20 years of experience in Health IT and Compliance Consulting wants to add clarity for compliance officers he will uncover myths versus reality as it relates to this very enigmatic law based on over 1000 risk assessments performed as well as years of experience in dealing directly with the Office of Civil Rights HIPAA auditors.

Mr. Tuttle will also speak about real-life audits conducted by the federal government (Brhasn has been on both sides of these audits)and your highest risks for being fined (some of the risk factors may surprise you). In addition, this course will cover the highest risk factors for being sued for wrongful disclosures of PHI and how patients are now using state laws to sue for wrongful disclosures. Don't always believe what you read online about HIPAA, especially regarding encryption and IT; many groups sell more than necessary.

Why should you Attend?

Do you have an effective HIPAA compliance program? New laws and funding mean an increased risk for business associates and covered entities! HIPAA Omnibus – Do you know what's involved and what you must do? What does Omnibus mean for covered entities and business associates? Why should you be concerned? Court cases are changing the landscape of HIPAA and patients' ability to sue.

It is essential to understand the changes at Health and Human Services as they relate to the enforcement of HIPAA for both covered entities and business associates and what we need to do as compliance officers. You need to know how to avoid being low-hanging fruit regarding audit risk and being sued by individuals who have had their PHI wrongfully disclosed due to bad IT or internal administrative practices.
